  • Closing Date:04/24/2025The Technical Theatre Director is responsible for coordinating the technical requirements of all theatre productions, auditorium events, and managing the technical resources of the auditorium facility. Qualified applicants should hold, at a minimum, a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with an emphasis in Technical Theatre, or equivalent professional experience.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Working knowledge of construction and set design.
  • Working knowledge of lighting design.
  • Working knowledge of stage rigging.
  • Working knowledge of audio and sound reinforcement.
  • Clear understanding of professional standards of stage safety.
  • Coordinate and supervise student technical crews and develop a training program to build an ongoing student technical production team.
  • Develop a cohort of students who are trained to meet the demands of technical theatre production and work effectively as a team.
  • Design and build scenery, design lighting, sound and props, and mount them for the stage.
  • Coordinate the technical demands of all productions, performances and events using the auditorium.
  • Coordinate the technical demands of single-date events as needed by the greater school community into the overall tech schedule.
  • Maintain safety and efficiency of all auditorium technical facilities: physical plant, stage rigging, construction area, lighting and sound equipment.
  • Maintain an accurate master calendar of all events in the auditorium and serve as a resource for staff/administration in planning events.
  • Develop a working relationship with building and grounds crew and grounds coordinator to support safety requirements for students and auditorium space.
  • Work with external contractors on issues ranging from floor replacement to lighting repair and special effects.
  • Foster a professional, collegial relationship with all production coordinators and school personnel involved in productions, programs and events.
  • Work with students who have a range of academic levels and interpersonal capacities to develop individual skills as well as a group work ethic within the student technical production team.
  • Attend all production meetings for fall and spring plays, musical, Variety Show, annual Dance Show and all music performances.
  • Direct and support technical requirements for all Fine Arts Department performances.
  • Plan and supervise all set, prop and lighting movement during rehearsals.
  • Oversee house staff during performances, run all crews on stage and direct publicity staff. The Technical Theatre Director is responsible for maintaining the function of the performance.
  • Coordinate post-production strike and cleanup of all facilities, materials and equipment within two days of the performance.
  • Instruct a semester-long Technical Theatre Production class.SKILLS TO SUPPORT THESE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • High level of integrity and trustworthiness, maintains confidentiality/privileged information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Maintains punctual and regular attendance.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to provide consistent high-quality work, with attention to efficiency and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly organized, maintains deadlines and able to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Intermediate computer skills including but not limited to Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite experience, Q-Lab, Social Media platforms, etc.
  • Such other skills and qualifications as the Board and Administration may establish.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Prior related experience preferred.
  • Required: Motivated to continuously learn and develop industry-related skills and certifications.
  • Hands-on experience with office equipment (e.g. phone systems, printers, etc.).WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work is performed in an office setting with extended periods of time sitting and/or standing.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to accept work interruptions in a considerate, helpful manner.
  • Communication may not always be cooperative in nature and requires tact and discretion.
  • Must be able to lift 20-25 pound boxes.WORKING DAYS/HOURSFlexible Hours. Frequently performs duties and responsibilities which require working hours beyond set hours and days.Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications, $65,000 - $72,500.Benefits: IMRF pension - employees vested after 10 years of employment, 12 Sick Days, Medical & dental insurance, Paid term life insurance policy equal to annual base salary.
